The first thing I have to say is: Yosemite is awesome and everyone should visit this park at least once in their life! This isn't just a climbers paradise. The views all over the park are pretty incredible and the hikes are as well.
Yesterday we spent driving around and checking out the various areas, shops, and trailheads, as well as taking a bunch of pictures. We got a couple of bottles of champagne, built a fire, and cooked dinner at our campsite. Actually, we were lucky to get a campsite. You really have to have reservations, which we didn't but were able to win a lottery of sorts and get a site 2 nights in a row.
This morning we got up early to make sure we could get a site and then headed out for a 3 mile roundtrip hike out to Mirror Lake and Snow Creek. We came back to camp at 12 so we could get out stuff into the bear box in our new camp. The bear business is big here. They break into cars all the time! We are pretty sure we heard it happen last night near us.
Once we got that stuff settled, we headed out to hike to Vernal and Nevada falls, which is 8.2 miles roundtrip from camp. The falls were beautiful and we got a great workout in. There are way too many steps I think but all in all we got up to about 5,000 feet, which made for great views. We hiked it in 3.5 hours with a break for lunch at the top so not too shabby!
It felt great to get 11+ miles in today! We also went to Tunnel Vision to see amazing views of the valley. (see picture at the top of this post. I took all of these with my iPhone)
