Belize Day 2 & 3

On Saturday (Day 2) we wandered around town and talked to the local dive shops to figure out what we wanted to do while we were here and the areas we would be snorkling in. We decided to ride bikes and see how much ground we could cover on the north end of the island. There is a little draw bridge you have to cross after paying a 50 cent toll and you're on your way. We rode through mud puddles and got filthy but had a blast! Next stop - dinner and Belikin beer!

Today (Day 3) Melody and I went snorkling at Hol Chan Reef and Shark Ray Alley while Tom did 2 dives. We got to swim up in down this beautiful reef and see so many varieties of fish. There are 8 types of Grouper in this area and we had to have seen at least 5 of those varieties. We also saw wrasse, cromies, damsles, tangs, horse-eyed jacks, nurse sharks, and so many more I can't even remember the names of now.

Our next spot was Shark Ray Alley where they threw a bunch of chum in the water and we all hopped in with our gear and swam with huge sharks, sting rays, monster size black grouper, blue tangs, and a few other types of fish. We swam down and pet the sharks while they were eating and our divemaster on the boat picked one up like a baby and we all pet the shark and he just hung out in his arms until he was bored and then swam away.

I laid out and enjoyed the sun for a bit and reflected on being in this place and how amazing it is to experience another culture and see the beauty of other places in the world. Belize is definitely a place I will come back to again.

p.s. the street vendor food is pretty good :)

off to drink a Belikin and plan my fishing trip for tomorrow...
